Mrs. Dorcas Lavelle Black, age 81, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 3PM in Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Eubanks and Bro. Brian Breland officiating. Rainsville Funeral Home, Inc. directing, www.rainsvillefuneralhome.com. Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 30th from 12PM-3PM. Lavelle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit, love for children, and, most of all, her love for the Lord and ministry. Lavelle was preceded in death by her parents, Comer and Ada Breland; her sisters, Merle Teat and Dorothy Hallman; her brothers, Curtis, Lawrence, Douglas, Charles, and Glen; and her son, Brian Black. She leaves behind her loving husband, Charles, who was not only her husband but also her devoted caregiver; daughter Tonya Mills (John), son, Mike Black (Teresa); and her beloved grandchildren, Zach, Tyler, Lauren, Hali, and Matthew; one great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Fred Breland (Faye); her sister, Shirley Tune (Sonny); and many special nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who held a special place in her heart. Lavelle’s parents pastored for many years, and through their ministry, she developed a deep love for serving the Lord and sharing His Word with others. That love for ministry became a beautiful and meaningful part of her own life. One of Lavelle’s special ministries was Jam Street, which she began for children. When an individual generously donated a trailer, Lavelle and Charles, along with a dedicated team, transformed it into a traveling backyard Children’s Church. Through Jam Street, children were welcomed with puppets, fun songs, laughter, and, most importantly, the message of God’s Word. Lavelle poured her heart into this ministry, and God faithfully blessed her efforts and the children who were reached through it. Upon her retirement, Lavelle lovingly donated the Jam Street trailer, materials, and props to Forward Church of God in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, allowing the ministry to continue blessing children. Lavelle also owned and operated a beauty shop for many years, where she built lasting friendships and touched the lives of many people. Her kindness, warmth, and genuine care for others extended far beyond the walls of her shop. Lavelle’s life was one of love, faith, service, and family. Her legacy will live on through the people she loved, the children she ministered to, and the many lives she touched throughout her years. The family would like to extend a heartfelt special thank-you to Charles, her loving husband and devoted caregiver, for the extraordinary love and care he gave Lavelle throughout her journey. They also express their sincere gratitude to Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Lavelle and her family. A very special thank-you is also extended to her niece, Gina Tittle, who was always there for Lavelle and her family. Her love, presence, and unwavering support meant more than words can express. Lavelle will be deeply missed, but her faith, love, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
