Gene Landau
August 25, 1930 - September 26, 2019
Gene Landau, born 8-25-1930, only son of Jack & Laverne Landau. He apprenticed to learn electronics at age 10. He had first class broadcast license at age 22. He worked 3 AM stations and 1 TV KWWL in the Waterloo area. He transferred to Chattanooga, TN in 1963, worked at 7 AM & FM stations and 2 TV stations, Channel 19 & 12 in the Chattanooga market. He was a charter member of Society of Broadcast Engineers. He was a member of the engineers that developed the Emergency Alert System, which is now known as Amber Alerts. He was hired as a Field Technician with RCA. He worked in 40 states and 9 foreign countries. After retiring from RCA he had his own consulting business and owned WSMQ in Bessemer, AL for 15 years. He sold the station and retired in Rainsville, Alabama. He was a member of Robertson’s Chapel. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Landau. Two daughters, Mary Ballard and husband Gary; Marji Bryant and husband Ken. Six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mr. Landau was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Jane Shelton. The family is very grateful to the hospice caregivers and to the Robertson’s Chapel church family. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 from 12PM-1PM with funeral services following at 1PM at the Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Gene Evans officiating and Mr. Zech Hook, Mrs. Mary Ballard, Bro. Woody & Dr. Larry Perry speaking. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with Rainsville Funeral Home, Inc. directing, www.rainsvillefuneralhome.com.
