Danny Guest Gilbert, age 73, of Port St. Joe, FL passed away on Sunday March 6, 2022 due to complications of the coronavirus. He grew up in Geraldine, Alabama where he learned to pick cotton and play football. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama, where he was also a 3 year letterman and team captain for the Crimson Tide football team, 1967-70. He was inducted into the Dekalb County Hall of Fame in 1999. He received a degree in business and used it to successfully open and operate Gilbert Pump & Mechanical, Inc. in Fort Walton Beach, Florida for 30 years. He loved life, family, friends, football and Sand Mountain. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed and accepted. His presence was grand, his smile was infectious and his laughter filled the room. No one could tell a story like Danny. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mindy and his children Shanna (Timothy) Ullmann, Brandy Hill, Barkley Glendenning and Palmer Gilbert. He is also survived by his grandchildren John Thomas Carter, Jake Carter, Walker Gilbert and Woods Glendenning, as well as nieces and nephews and his beloved pug, Ms. Addie. Danny is preceded in death by his parents, Mary C. and Harold Gilbert and his two sisters, Lynn Parrish and Lana Machen. He will surely be missed by all that knew him. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Geraldine, Alabama on Saturday March 12, 2022. There will be a gathering at 2:00 followed by a brief remembrance service.
