Obituary for Billy J. Benefield It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billy Benefield, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, who left us at the age of 82, on April 6th, 2025. An American Patriot who served in the United States Air Force, he was known for his unrelenting love of Alabama football and the Sylvania Rams. Uncle Billy had a spirit and personality that could never be tamed. A lifelong bachelor, he never married, but his devotion to his family, particularly his nieces and nephews, was unwavering. To them, he was more than just an uncle—he was a constant presence, a protector, and a source of endless entertainment. Billy had a passion for watching high school sports, often seen on the sidelines or in the stands, cheering for an-yone except Plainview or arguing with the referees. His opinions, as strong as they were, came with a genuine love for the game and for his community. Though his belligerent and ornery nature often made for colorful conversations, those who knew him best un-derstood that beneath the gruff exterior was a heart full of love and generosity. His stubbornness, sharp wit, and big personality will be sorely missed, but the memories of his joy, laughter, and unmistakable presence will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Billy is survived by two brothers Doyle (Sandra) Benefield and Bobby (Delta) Benefield, nieces and nephews Dee Dee (Joey) Jones, Diana (Erik) Stephens, Lisa (David) Sparks, John (Jennifer) Benefield, and great nieces and nephews, Emsley Jones, Caroline (Jacob) Tinsley, Asa Sparks, Eli Sparks, Harper Benefield, and Lucy Benefield. He was preceded in death by his parents Hollie and Mildred Benefield. A small celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 2PM in Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel and a graveside service will follow at Antioch Cemetery, where friends and family will gather to remember the man who made life just a little more colorful. As a token of farewell, give him one last yell of “Roll Tide!” and/or “Go Rams!” The Benefield family will receive friends Wednesday, April 9th from 11AM-2PM. Rest in peace, Billy. Your belligerence may have earned you a few eye rolls, but your love for us all will never be forgotten. Roll Tide and Go Rams, we love you forever.
